Taylor's Story
Taylor Harrison is just one of thirty new homeowners we’ve seen close on their homes so far in 2025! We connected with Taylor after she closed (just last week!), on owning a home, our community, and what receiving a Project I See You grant means to her. Check out the full story below.
Why did you apply for this grant?
I was drawn to this grant for several compelling reasons. First, discovering an organization created by women, for women, that also provides financial support felt like finding exactly what I’d been searching for. Joining Project I See You was particularly meaningful to me as a woman of color who actively seeks out affinity spaces where I can connect with others who share similar experiences and challenges.
Ultimately, Project I See You transformed homeownership from an abstract dream into an achievable reality while providing invaluable education throughout the entire process. The traditional path to homeownership often favors those with generational wealth, connections, and inherited knowledge. Without these advantages, the journey can feel overwhelming or even impossible. Having a supportive community of women who understood my experiences was absolutely essential to my success in purchasing my home.
What does homeownership mean to you?
Homeownership represents three fundamental things to me: liberation, joy, and generational wealth building. After renting my entire life, I’ve never felt completely free to express my authentic self in my living space due to landlord restrictions and limitations. Even with wonderful landlords, I was essentially funding someone else’s investment rather than building my own financial future. Being able to call something my own means liberation and freedom.
Now, I’m finally able to channel my creativity and design skills to transform my space into a true reflection of who I am, which brings me immense joy. As someone who loves crafting and has always enjoyed revitalizing furniture, I can now fully unleash my creative vision. Beyond the personal fulfillment, I’m thrilled to finally have a space where I can host gatherings, create community for others, build a family, and bring so many of my dreams to life.
Furthermore, I can finally start building generational wealth for my future descendants. I’ll be able to invest in peace of mind for future generations and hopefully build and create pathways that are more attainable and achievable.
How has Shared Power made an impact on your life?
Shared Power has been transformational by connecting me with knowledge, resources, and community that would have otherwise remained out of reach. The power of hearing from women who are navigating similar journeys and achieving success in homeownership, career advancement, relationships, and parenthood cannot be overstated — it’s genuinely empowering and inspiring.
The entire Project I See You team embodies the philosophy of “come as you are and share your journey,” creating a truly safe environment that gave me permission to be brave, evolve, and contribute meaningfully. This program has fundamentally changed me, and I know that impact will last a lifetime.
Is there a way you see yourself giving back?
I’m excited about several ways I can contribute to Project I See You’s continued success. First, I’d love to help expand our digital presence by creating a comprehensive database and network system through social media (Facebook, IG, etc). This would allow current and former cohort members to easily access resources, share solutions, and stay connected with one another. This powerful affirmation we experience through out the 8 week cohort does not have to stop when we by a house!
Additionally, I’m passionate about developing ongoing support for program graduates. I envision creating free six-month homeownership coaching classes, with homeownership coaches that will donate their time. This would provide continued guidance and support as new homeowners navigate their first year of ownership, ensuring the impact of I See You extends well beyond the initial program.
Thank you for sharing your story with us, Taylor!
